The Horton Creek Hike is planned for Thursday, October 2 through Saturday, October 4, 2014. However, we understand that not everyone can take off from work all three days. If you can only come up on Friday, sign up anyway. Dan Beaver will be teaching various outdoor and survival skills such as primitive fire starting, shelter construction, and foraging.
The following items are a suggested items to bring for the Horton Creek Hike:
The camp area is about 3 miles from the trail head parking lot. It is an easy hike. However, all of your equipment will need to be carried to the camp, so pack wisely.
There will be a water source, the water does need to be purified before consumption, or using for cooking. Purifying tablets can be purchased or the water can be boiled to make safe. There are also water filters that can be purchased.
Directions to Trailhead:
From Payson drive East on SR 260 for 16 miles. Just past Kohl's Ranch, turn left onto the road to the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery. 1 mile up this road park in the trailhead parking on the west side. The trail begins across the road in the campground.
